Food-loving teenagers – are you looking for a fun, relaxing, after-school activity that gives you the chance to learn new skills, master cookery techniques, and eat delicious food? Teen Cookery Toolbox: Online Course is the after-school club that works around all of the other commitments in your busy life.

Would you love to know how to make a light, crispy Italian pizza base from scratch, bubbling with melted cheese and covered with your own creative toppings? How about expertly chopping vegetables like a pro, mastering a chicken and chorizo tray bake or baking brownies that might just win a Paul Hollywood handshake?

Our practical, fun-packed online course for teens is a great way to unwind when you get home from school. It’ll give your family a little more time to manage their own evening workloads and activities, and you’ll get the chance to take the reins in the kitchen and cook up an impressive feast to share.

You’ll whip up pavlovas and blueberry crumble cakes, a Mexican chilli with spicy guacamole, a classic fish pie topped with crispy filo pastry, and many more feasting dishes, including the ultimate brunch.

Each recipe is packed with lots of top cookery tips, which will leave you inspired to keep on cooking with confidence and creativity.

It’s a great way to learn skills you’ll use for life, getting ready to leave home. Cooking is a great way to bond with new people; it’s comforting to know that when that day comes, you’ll be able to feed yourself and your friends really well. You’ll be amazed how much you learn on this tailor-made course.

This course shares the same sessions as Duke of Edinburgh, reworked for students aged 13-18.

“Developing confidence in the kitchen is essential, particularly as the moment to leave home approaches. Our online courses effectively deliver the teacher to your home kitchen, so teens can get to work in a familiar environment and learn skills to last a lifetime.”

Camilla Schneideman, Managing Director at Leiths

Cookery Toolbox for Teenagers | Entry-level Course

This 6-week course will guide teenage cooks through kitchen safety, knife skills, and an essential toolkit of cookery skills, empowering them to cook healthy, delicious meals for life. The course is taught by our expert, world-class cookery teachers via beautifully produced videos on the Workshop app.

The app pauses automatically when you need to complete a step, at which point you can share pictures of your cooking with your classmates and mentor, and send everyone messages of support.

Each week, you will unlock a new batch of video-based sessions that take you step-by-step through the process of cooking a variety of recipes. You can choose to cook these all at once, creating a feast with pudding too, or to spread them out over the week.

By joining the course, you will have access to the following through the Workshop app:

  • Six units, unlocked weekly, guiding you through 2-3 hours of cooking time each week
  • More than 12 individual cooking sessions
  • Expert guidance and one-to-one support from your class mentor
  • Collaborative chat with your own private class and mentor
  • Feedback on your dishes from your class and mentor via a private in-app feed of photo uploads
  • A Certificate of Completion after you complete everything on the course

In addition to the core aspects of the course, you will also get:

  • Downloadable Leiths recipes and additional resources for you to keep
  • Access to your course dashboard for a total of 12 months after your start date

A ‘kit list’ of ingredients will be made available to you at the beginning of each session so that you and your parent or guardian can plan ahead. If you’re unable to find specific ingredients, advice on alternatives can be provided on request.

You will need access to a well-stocked kitchen, including at least a double hob (two rings) and an oven, preferably with a grill. In order to access the course content, you will need a smartphone or tablet and the Workshop app. Other equipment such as a food processor and electric hand whisk are recommended but not essential. A comprehensive list of everything you will need for the course will be sent to you ahead of the start date.

Learning online with Leiths couldn’t be more straightforward. All you need to do is log into the Workshop learning app on your phone or tablet, follow our expert tutors’ step by step instructions, and get cooking.

You’ll work alongside up to nine other teens, who will soon become a helpful support group through the app, and you’ll be guided by a friendly Leiths mentor, who will be on hand to help you cook an impressive range of tasty recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Take and upload pictures of your finished dish so that your tutor can comment and offer tips for next time, and your cohort can be inspired by your progress.

When you sign up to the Teen Cookery Toolbox, you’ll unlock a new unit every week, for six weeks, which you follow at your own pace. This includes an introductory unit covering knife skills and kitchen safety.

Don’t worry if you have too much homework, or need to skip a week during the holidays. The Teen Cookery Toolbox is totally flexible, so you can take a session at the weekend or whenever you like. Your access to the course lasts for 12 months, so don’t feel pressurised if homework has to take priority for a while.

It’s a great way to learn skills you’ll use for life, getting ready to leave home. Cooking is a great way to bond with new people; it’s comforting to know that when that day comes, you’ll be able to feed yourself and your friends really well. You’ll be amazed how much you learn on this tailor made course.

After each session, you will be asked to upload photos of your creations for discussion and feedback from your classmates and mentor.

Once you have completed all sessions on the course, you will earn your Certificate of Completion.
