How to Make Granola

Granola Recipe

Granola is a great one to make with kids. Even very little ones can have fun weighing, mixing, and tasting as they go. Ours keeps for a month in an airtight container, so it should last you well into next half term.

Ingredients

Serves 4

350g rolled jumbo oats
2 tablespoons sunflower seeds
2 tablespoons pumpkin seeds
100g skinned hazelnuts
75g flaked almonds
60g demerara sugar
8 tablespoons apple juice
2 tablespoons runny honey
30g dried cherries
30g dried blueberries
4 dried figs, roughly chopped

Any variety of dried fruit can be added to this granola mix, or use what you have in the cupboard.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 170°C and line a baking sheet with parchment.
  2. Mix the apple juice and honey together and warm through in a pan or in the microwave. Put to one side.
    Chop your figs into pieces.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the oats, seeds, nuts and sugar then pour over the oats mixture and stir well to coat all the ingredients.
  4. Spread the mix over a large baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until crisp and beginning to get golden in colour. It is important to check the toasting oat mixture from time to time to stop it from burning.
  5. Remove from the oven and allow to cool and stir in the dried fruit.
  6. Serve with yoghurt and fresh fruit. This will keep in an airtight container for a month.
